JOHN INVERDALE ON THE SIX NATIONS
Saturday's triple-header of games starts with unbeaten Wales taking on Italy in Cardiff.

New coaches Warren Gatland and Shaun Edwards have had a huge impact on the mental strength of the Welsh squad.

Previous Welsh sides might have crumbled when they were under the cosh against England and become frustrated when they were not converting their possession against Scotland.

But there is a new resilience that makes you think this team might be going places.

As for Italy, they could have won both their games so far.

Under Nick Mallett they seem more dogged and if they had thrown in straight in the lineout they would have beaten England and with a little bit more adventure might have prevailed against Ireland.

The Irish, meanwhile, face Scotland and they will be hugely encouraged by their second-half display in Paris.

At half-time in that game coach Eddie O'Sullivan must have thought he had virtually lost his job, but by the end he was nearly the hero.

I think they will beat the Scots due to their superior pace and penetration.

The great debate for Scotland is, who is going to score a try for them? It's so hard to see where they are going to get a score from.

The evening match sees England travel to Paris.

France have picked 19-year-old scrum half Morgan Parra out of nowhere and have 21-year-old Francois Trinh-Duc at fly-half, whereas England coach Brian Ashton is still sticking with the experience of Jonny Wilkinson.

I feel the line-up Ashton has picked is pretty canny and have a funny feeling that England might just win by five.
